If that were the only reason why I love knitting and crocheting that would be enough but there are a few more.

One of the best things I have done since becoming and adult is learning to crochet and knit. I am not as avid as others but I do it enough to know that it is a good thing. There are numerous benefits to knitting and crocheting. Here are my top reasons for wanting pursuing this craft and why it is good for anyone.
Relaxing

Life is busy and complicated. Time to wind down is needed every day. Knitting and crocheting forces me to sit down and focus on a simple task. The rhythm of the stitches quiets my mind and relaxes my body. In the moments that I am working with yarn my stress level is low and my mood is lifted. There is more balance in the world. If that were the only reason why I love knitting and crocheting that would be enough but there are a few more.

Practical

Creating by knitting and crocheting is practical. Practical items created through knitting and crocheting are numerous. Just to name a few: sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves, socks, blankets, wash clothes, and even undergarments. You can even create small toys for children and pets. Knitting and crocheting are super practical making them that much more beneficial.

Cheap

Depending on the type of yarn you purchase, knitting and crocheting are rather inexpensive hobbies. The majority of yarn you can buy at your local store is very reasonable. You can buy tons of yarn in all kinds of colors and fuel your creativity. The only real cost is your time.

Stimulating

Knitting and Crocheting keep the mind sharp. Even though there is plenty of relaxation to be had while creating there is still quite a bit going on inside the brain. You have to stay on target or else you lose your place in the pattern and have to back track. You are constantly learning new stitches and new techniques. You set a goal of finishing a project and you mentally figure out how to fulfill that goal. This is the perfect type of stimulation for when you are relaxing on the couch after a long day. I love to knit or crochet while watching TV or movies. I find it easier to stay focused on the project and on the movie while working my hands.

Charitable

When I am creating something I am always thinking about who I can give the item to. A friend's new baby needs a soft new blanket. My son wants a scarf for a camping trip. My husband would love an afghan to cozy under while watching TV. It does my heart good knowing that all my hard work will make someone else happy. It is a win-win situation. You don't even have to actually know the person you are creating for. There are organizations, such as Project Linus, that take home-made blankets for hospital bound children. I reap the many benefits of knitting and crocheting and someone else is made happy all in one project.
